Supporting Mental Wellbeing – Nicola Becomes a Mental Health First Aider
Posted on 13 March 2025At Oaklands Rest Home, we believe that exceptional care starts with a team that feels supported, valued, and well-equipped to handle the challenges of caregiving. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to share that our Registered Home Manager, Nicola, has recently completed her Mental Health First Aid at Work certification.
Nicola’s role goes far beyond managing the day-to-day running of Oaklands—she is deeply committed to supporting both staff and families, ensuring that mental wellbeing is never overlooked. Through this training, she has strengthened her ability to recognise both verbal and non-verbal signs of mental health struggles, equipping her with the confidence to provide the right support when it’s needed most.
The course allowed Nicola to practise real-life conversations in a safe environment, helping her develop effective ways to offer comfort, be an objective listener, and, when necessary, guide someone toward further professional support.
“I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to complete this training,” Nicola shared. “It may be the life-saving intervention that someone needs.”
At Oaklands, we know that caring for others starts with caring for ourselves. Nicola’s dedication ensures that our home is not only a place of exceptional care for residents but also a safe, supportive space for staff and families too.
Well done, Nicola!
