Oaklands go above and beyond to help Gurdev settle into her new home

When Gurdev’s family approached Oaklands Residential Home, it was clear that the family were not just looking for somewhere that provided outstanding care, but a place that their mother could truly feel at ease and call home.

Getting to know Gurdev

English was not Gurdev’s main language, so one of the concerns Gurdev’s family had was surrounding the communication between their mother and staff. Thankfully, several of our team are able to speak more than one language, including Punjabi and Hindi – which also happened to be Gurdev’s first language.

After an initial visit with family members, Oaklands arranged a second visit with Gurdev, where our specially trained staff were able to develop fantastic rapport, while also thoroughly assessing Gurdev’s care needs and learning more about her interests.

From here, Oaklands worked closely with  Gurdev and her family to begin the smooth transition of moving into her new home.

Making Gurdev feel at home

Since joining us in February, Gurdev has really started to settle in at Oaklands. Gurdev has already built an amazing bond with our staff members and has been given a new lease of life with the wide range of activities available here at Oaklands. What’s more, our chef has been working hard to master Gurdev’s favourite Indian meals as part of her tailored nutrition plan and is even teaching the other chefs some recipes as well!

Gurdev and her family have been so impressed with the level of care Oaklands provide that we were recently recommended to their family friend, who will hopefully join us soon and provide Gurdev with a friend who shares a very similar Hindi background.
