Family plant a tree at Oaklands in memory of much-loved resident Alex
Alex was a much-loved resident here at Oaklands, who had been with us for three & a half years for dementia care, before his sad passing earlier this year. His kind, witty personality and Irish charm constantly brought joy to both the other residents & our staff at Oaklands. He always made it his mission to make sure everyone at the home was happy.
Prior to coming to Oaklands, Alex was a big family man who had been an active member in his local community – always lending a hand to others and raising money for several charities. One of his biggest passions was gardening, and amazingly he was still gardening for clients right into 80s before his dementia diagnosis. When Alex moved into Oaklands this love for gardening stayed as strong as ever and we’d often find him out in the garden, tending to our flower beds and vegetable patch on a daily basis.
In honour of Alex and to say thank you to the staff at Oaklands, Alex’s family came along to our home on Father’s Day this year to plant a tree on our front lawn in special memory of Alex. The day itself was extremely moving and the perfect sentiment to the amazing character that Alex was.
Alex’s story is just one example of the dedicated care and support our team at Oaklands provides for residents every day. If you would like to learn more about care provided at Oaklands, please give us a call on 02380845759.
