Elvis hits all the right notes for resident Ina
Oaklands’ ‘Send a Smile’ campaign is always very popular with our residents and this time it was our lovely Ina’s turn!
As soon as we found out Ina had always wanted to see Elvis, after her friend saw him in Vegas, Nicola and Mandy arranged a surprise trip for Ina on Saturday 4th March to watch the world’s number one Elvis tribute act, at one of the South’s leading venues.
We pulled out all the stops to make Ina’s wish come true. One of her carers, Sharon, helped Ina get ready by doing her hair and make up. She looked a million dollars!
In the evening, her carer Emma took her to see the Elvis Presley tribute act at the Guildhall in Portsmouth. Ina was wowed by the impressive venue, built in 1890, and loved every minute spent watching talented Ben Portsmouth perform all of Elvis’ big hits.
Ben really captured Elvis’ look, singing voice and on-stage charisma and made history when he was voted the ‘Best Elvis’ at the largest International Elvis Festival in Europe and ‘World Champion Elvis Tribute Artist’ in Memphis by both the judges and the public vote. A few years later he returned to Memphis to win ‘Worldwide Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist’, so the ladies were really lucky to watch the best of the best!
Ina was delighted to see ‘Elvis’ again and sang along with all the songs at the top of her lungs. She said “I had a lovely time!”
Ina’s story is just one example of the dedicated person-centred care and support our Oaklands’ team provide for residents. If you would like to learn more about care provided at Oaklands, please give us a call on 02380 845759.
