Find out more about our lovely residents

Everyone at our dementia and residential care home is unique and has their own story to tell. Take a moment to read some of our residents’ journeys and adventures here.

Oaklands sends Roger on an intergalactic trip to space!

As part of our Send a Smile campaign, we helped Roger, a resident at Oaklands, take an intergalactic trip to space. When we heard that Roger loved space and his dream was to see a rocket launch, we knew we had to do something about it. Roger got to experience a rocket launch as we turned the lounge into a launchpad.

Family plant a tree at Oaklands in memory of much-loved resident Alex

Alex was a much-loved resident here at Oaklands, who had been with us for three & a half years for dementia care, before his sad passing earlier this year. Prior to coming to Oaklands, Alex loved gardening, and amazingly he was still gardening for clients right into 80s before his dementia diagnosis.

Oaklands go above and beyond to help Gurdev settle into her new home

English was not Gurdev’s main language, so one of the concerns Gurdev’s family had was surrounding the communication between their mother and staff. Thankfully, several of our team are able to speak more than one language, including Punjabi and Hindi – which also happened to be Gurdev’s first language.

Oaklands put together a special ‘birthday menu’ for Pete

Birthdays are always a special occasion at Oaklands and we go to every effort to make sure each of our resident’s special days are unique to them. When Pete – a long-term resident of ours – had his birthday coming up in May, he was initially a little hesitant to celebrate; however, having often spoken about his favourite pastime meals, he was keen to enjoy some of these on the day.

Oaklands reunite couple to celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary

When we heard about Diana and Tony’s 39th wedding anniversary, we decided to put on a special afternoon tea in our private reading room for the couple to celebrate.

Helping Keith live independently again

Returning home after receiving short-term care can sometimes be daunting for residents. So, when Keith joined us at Oaklands temporarily, we wanted to make sure his transition to living independently again would be as smooth as possible.

Getting Peter's moves back

We had the pleasure of welcoming the lovely Peter for a temporary stay at Oaklands, to help get his confidence back and establish the type of care he would require in the future.

Margaret benefits from sensory technology

Margaret is 94 years old and is living with dementia. Our interactive screen is an ideal activity for Margaret as it provides sensory activities, puzzles and games that encourage movement, stimulation and shared enjoyment.
