Our celebrations were fit for the Queen!Posted on 20 June 2022
We celebrated the Queen’s Jubilee in style, holding a fantastic celebratory street party for residents, family, friends and neighbours on Wednesday 1st June.
For many residents, the event was great reminiscence therapy, as they joined together to take a trip down memory lane and share their stories and experiences of the Queen’s Coronation.
Resident Paulinee recounted her early teens, when she “watched it on the TV, the house was full, as there were not many TVs.” She continued; “My mum made me help at 6 in the morning collecting chairs from people’s houses!”
The street party was a great success, the staff decorated the street beautifully with bunting and balloons, and everyone enjoyed dancing and waving their flags to the live music by ‘Goodnight Sweethearts’. The attendees also had fun playing classic games like hook-a-duck, before being treated to delicious food. There was even a photo booth set up, so guests could wear handcrafted crowns and pose next to the Queen!
Amy, a resident, said: “it was a special day for her and everyone else”. Whilst a family member added; “everything was perfect, it was so nice seeing everyone with such big smiles on their faces and having fun.”
We are very pleased with how well the day went and Manager, Nicola Ray said: “We’d like to give a special thanks to everyone who made the day such a great success. We are very proud of the team. We are also really grateful to know how much our hard work is valued, as so many families told us how lucky they are that their family members are at Oaklands.”
