Oaklands Kitchen Team named finalists in Social Care Stars Awards

We’re thrilled to share that our Kitchen Team at Oaklands Rest Home has been named a finalist in the Care Home Nutrition Award category at this year’s Social Care Stars Awards!

This national recognition celebrates their outstanding commitment to creating thoughtful, inclusive, and nourishing home-cooked meals that truly enrich daily life here at Oaklands.

Our Kitchen Team’s passion goes far beyond food. Every meal is freshly prepared using high-quality ingredients, with that comforting, homemade touch that brings joy to both residents and visitors. From hand-battered fish to homemade soups, scotch eggs and pastries, each dish is full of flavour and made with care.

But what really sets the team apart is their dedication to inclusivity. Diabetic-friendly cakes, biscuits, and desserts are available daily—not just as a one-off—so everyone can enjoy a treat, regardless of dietary needs.

Presentation and dignity are just as important. The team has introduced a patterned crockery system to discreetly support residents with different dietary needs, allowing everyone to dine with confidence and without feeling singled out.

The impact of their work is clear. Residents who previously needed supplements to maintain weight are now thriving on the team’s nourishing, fortified meals. Working closely with our Lifestyle Team, bespoke meal plans are also developed to support individual health goals and overall wellbeing.

Whether it’s whipping up a last-minute sandwich, adapting the menu to suit someone’s preferences, or baking a special celebration cake, our Kitchen Team always goes the extra mile.
