Making Memories: What our residents got up to in OctoberPosted on 9 November 2022
Our residents had a spooktacular time this October. There were no tricks, just lots of treats!
Here’s what we got up to:
We had a wicked Halloween party this year, a spooky sweet trolley full of our residents’ favourite sweets and our very own pumpkin picking patch!
To get us in the Halloween spirit, we played spooky Halloween bingo, word searches and got creative with cat colouring. Our lovely residents also helped us make paper pumpkin decorations.
Lots of children were delighted to join us for pumpkin picking and got creative carving, with games and prizes to be won.
Our amazing Head Chef, Katie, created the most beautiful pumpkin cake, which was enjoyed by all!
We are very proud of Mandy, who took part in the judging day interview recently, after being shortlisted for The South-East Region of the Great British Care Awards for The Care Home Activities Organiser Award! Well done, Mandy!
We had a German-themed lunch party to celebrate the end of Oktoberfest! The room was kitted out with Oktoberfest decorations and our ladies and gentlemen loved the lager tasting, with 7 different German lagers, including non-alcoholic to try, so everyone could join in!
We played games and were treated to delicious food made by our Head Chef, Katie, everyone had a blast! Prost! (Cheers in German!)
Our lovely residents enjoyed watching ‘Les Miserables’ at our special cinema experience, complete with lots of cinema snacks!
Our wonderful residents had great fun decorating their very own tote bags using paint and stencils.
It was such a success, so we’ll be bringing this activity back for Christmas!
Our residents took part in a lovely sensory activity, where they had to guess the smell, including curry powder, rosemary, orange, cinnamon, onion and mint sauce!
Some got extremely close, but remarked without using their other senses, it was quite difficult to work out!
World Smile Day
We celebrated World Smile Day with a photo shoot of our amazing staff members and residents. We laughed a lot at the different funny smiles, it was great fun!
‘Wear it pink’
We took part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an amazing, pink-themed party!
We had pink-coloured food and drinks, and the most beautiful cake made by our talented chef, Katie!
Our residents took part in a pink-themed raffle, enjoyed pink-themed games, such as ‘Pin the Pink Hat’ and won many prizes!
We were pleased to raise money for this worthy cause, if you would still like to donate, please head to our JustGiving Page.
Last month, we celebrated our lovely resident, Betty’s 90th birthday. Our chef, Katie, made her a delicious cake. In return, we had fun marking Katie’s birthday and our amazing Manager, Nicola’s.
Mia, our new Head of Care, received Oaklands September’s Employee of the Month award for all of her hard work!
