Making memories – What our residents got up to in April
Posted on 5 May 2022This month, the residents were able to celebrate Easter and the Queen’s birthday in style, as well as enjoying lots of fun activities to keep their bodies and mind’s active.
We are also proud to have raised money for the Alzheimer’s Society with our fantastic Bake Off fundraiser!
Here are some of the incredible memories our residents made this month:
Easter Party
We hosted an amazing Easter party for our residents and the home looked fantastic with all the Easter-themed decorations. Our residents loved getting involved in the preparations for Easter and in the run up to the party, spent time colouring and sticking together their beautiful Easter wreaths, which we used to decorate the home.
Our Chef, Katy, treated the residents to a wonderful Easter picnic and they also enjoyed tucking into some Easter eggs, kindly donated by one of our seniors, Donna.
After the party, the residents were thrilled to be visited by the Easter bunny who handed out Easter gifts made from the local church. We’d like to say a big thank you to the local church who also kindly dropped off Easter eggs for the residents to enjoy.

Queen’s Birthday
The residents wore crowns fit for the ‘Birthday Queen’ and we celebrated the Queen’s birthday by having a delicious afternoon tea, served with yummy cakes!

‘Bake for Dementia’ Fundraiser
Nicola and Paige hosted a Bake Off on 29th April and have so far raised an impressive £113 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The cakes were delicious and we’d like to thank everyone who donated to this very worthy cause.

Our directors have very kindly confirmed that they will top up our funds once we have the final figure. We can’t wait to announce the total amount raised!

National Zoo Lovers Day
On the 8th April, we celebrated National Zoo Lovers Day! It was a lovely day where the residents had the chance to pick and adopt their own animals.
All of our residents loved choosing their own cuddly animals and the toys were so comforting, our residents quickly became attached to them! We enjoyed giving the animals names and spending time caring for them!

National Superhero Day
The residents all had big beams on their faces, celebrating National Superhero Day on the 28th April.
Our fantastic staff put on a superhero themed party, with decorations, masks and even got involved by dressing up as different superheroes!
In the afternoon, we put our residents’ superhero skills to the test, with a fun game of ‘Tin Can Alley’. They all did very well knocking the cans down and it was a great way to keep active!

Interactive Games
Throughout April, we have been keeping our minds sharp, by playing games on the interactive screen, as well as ‘Play your Cards Right’, a favourite amongst Oaklands residents. They also enjoyed a quiz and playing animal bingo, where the residents had great fun making different animal noises.
We’ve also been doing lots of activities to keep active, stretch and practice hand to eye coordination, including balloon games and fun football noodle exercises – and enjoyed heading outside into the sunshine to get some all important vitamin D.
Registered Manager, Nicola, said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who delivered Easter eggs for our residents and staff, as well as to our resident Barry who offered to clean the dining room after lunch. We are so grateful and appreciative of these kind gestures and we fully support our residents who like to keep so independent!”

We can’t wait for more fun activities next month. Keep an eye on our blogs to find out what we get up to in May!
