Cutting-edge AI technology introduced at Oaklands
Posted on 5 February 2025
At Oaklands, we always strive to deliver the best possible care for our residents. We understand that many of our residents, especially those living with dementia, find it difficult to communicate their pain levels.
We are proud to announce that we have adopted state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, PainChek, to make sure no pain goes undetected or untreated.
How PainChek works
PainChek uses AI-driven facial analysis to identify involuntary micro-facial expressions that indicate pain, along with non-facial pain indicators such as vocalisations, movements, and behaviours. This allows our care home staff to accurately monitor pain levels in real-time.
Benefits of using PainChek
Fast and accurate pain assessments
This cutting-edge technology completes assessments in under two minutes, even from a distance of up to three metres, so residents are treated quickly with dignity, compassion and respect.
Enables GPs to regularly monitor pain levels and provide personalised treatment
PainChek gives GPs and healthcare practitioners real-time access to the pain assessment records of those under their care, allowing them to monitor pain levels more frequently. With secure access at any time, they can make informed decisions on personalised care, support and treatment–providing full peace of mind.
More meaningful time with residents
The digitised pain assessments not only improves the accuracy of identifying pain but ensures the care team can provide more effective care and treatment through a coordinated care plan. This allows our carers to spend more meaningful time with our residents.
What our MD has to say
Oaklands’ Managing Director, Samir Patel, said: “PainChek has revolutionised the care we provide at Oaklands. A specialist paramedic recently visited our home and was impressed with all the technology we use to support our residents. He said PainChek helps GPs prioritise their visits, based on where the pain is and how bad the pain is. This new technology offers great reassurance to both our residents and their families, knowing that we are providing the best levels of care.”
What PainChek’s Partnership Manager has to say
Jack Lee, PainChek’s Partnership Manager, added: “I am delighted to welcome Oaklands Rest Home to the PainChek family. The commitment that the staff and leadership at Oaklands Rest Home have to providing person centred care is evidenced by their enthusiasm to incorporate PainChek into their day-to-day provision of care, ensuring all residents have access to equitable care, regardless of their ability to reliably self-report their pain. We look forward to building on our partnership over the coming months and years.”
