Come Fly with Us: Welcome to Oaklands AirPosted on 28 April 2021
Travelling abroad has to be one of the most exciting things you can do.
You get to experience the feeling of flying, learn about different cultures, visit iconic landmarks as well as taste authentic cuisine.
Many of our residents are well-travelled, having visited and even lived in multiple countries across the globe.
The residents’ tales of sunny family holidays in Costa del Sol and backpacking trips through Asia inspired our Activities Team to do something special for our globetrotters.
Introducing Oaklands Air
In 2021, we founded ‘Oaklands Air’, a unique airline that allows our residents to experience international travel from the comfort of their armchairs.
Supplied with boarding passes and passports for each flight, the residents are greeted by Mandy, our Check-In Assistant, who accompanies them through to our lounge-turned-aircraft.
Once seated, the residents are given the all-important safety briefing by our fabulous Flight Attendants, before jetting off to their destination and enjoying some in-flight snacks.
Bonjour from France
On 24th February, Oaklands Air flight OAK240 took off from Marchwood International Airport for a short flight across the English Channel, before arriving in France.
Once the plane touched down in Français, the residents visited a ‘traditional French café’, where they tucked into some delicious cakes and listened to classic French music.
They were then treated to a special performance of the ‘Can Can’ by our Care Team, who did a fabulous job.
Hallo from the Netherlands
The residents boarded Oaklands Air once again in April as flight OAK220 jetted them off to the Netherlands.
Famed for its beautiful canals, the residents took a trip down the country’s iconic waterways by watching YouTube videos and using our interactive table.
In the afternoon, we visited a Dutch café, where the residents enjoyed a delicious apple pie with cream, as well as Dutch waffles.
The café played authentic Dutch music and the tables were decorated with paper windmills and tulips – two things heavily associated with the Netherlands.
An Expanding List of Destinations
Due to the success of our last two journeys, Oaklands Air will continue to fly the residents to a new destination each month.
The residents have loved both trips so far and are excited to find out where they will travel to in May.
