Celebrating Innovation at Oaklands

Posted on 27 May 2025

While we didn’t take home the award at this year’s Care Home Awards for Best Use of Technology and Digital Care Strategy, we’re incredibly proud to have been shortlisted among such inspiring finalists.

Oaklands Rest Home is a multi-award-winning care home specialising in dementia care. For over 10 years, we’ve championed the use of technology to improve outcomes for our residents, their families, and our staff. Directors Samir and Anish Patel bring over 20 years’ healthcare experience — alongside a deep understanding of technology — and continue to lead the way in transforming how care is delivered.

From real-time AI pain monitoring and acoustic night-time alerts, to fully digital care records and eMAR medication management systems, our tech-led approach is making a real difference every day. These systems allow us to prevent falls, track wellbeing metrics like outdoor activity time, and communicate instantly with families. We’re also integrated into the regional NHS Shared Care Records system (CHIE), giving our team direct access to GP and hospital data to support safer, faster care.

Our use of cutting-edge tools like PainChek and Ally Acoustic Monitoring doesn’t just support resident safety — it empowers our team to deliver highly personalised care and gives families complete peace of mind.

We’ve recently introduced an AI-powered audit tool to monitor quality and compliance trends and are preparing to migrate our stakeholder feedback into the same system in 2025 — another step forward in our continuous improvement journey.

Our mission remains clear: to provide the highest levels of person-centred care, using innovation to improve wellbeing, reduce staff burden, and deliver outstanding outcomes for those who call Oaklands home.
