Activities Coordinator becomes ‘Outstanding’ Seated Dance & Exercise Leader

Posted on 1 March 2022

Mandy joined Oaklands as Activities Coordinator in 2020 and has already become a well-known figure in the care home activities community, due to her innovative armchair activities.

Mandy has led lots of fantastic activities at Oaklands, which the residents enjoy from the comfort of their seats, including movement to music, which combines stretches, exercise and movement games to boost the residents’ social, physical and cognitive well-being. Mandy keeps the activities engaging by varying the dance activities and music, as well as using interactive props, like parachutes.

Mandy’s innovative ‘Oaklands Air’ is particularly popular, as it’s a unique, fun and engaging armchair travel experience. Every month Mandy lets the residents choose which country they would like to visit, they’re then treated to the whole VIP travel experience! Residents receive their very own passport, boarding pass and first-class plane ticket and are shown to their seats by the fabulous cabin crew, who provide a very authentic onboard experience.

We are continually impressed by Mandy’s desire to learn and pass on new skills and Mandy’s latest venture has been in seated dance and exercise. We are thrilled to announce that she has passed her Level 2 Seated Dance and Exercise Leader exam and was marked as ‘Outstanding’ in every category! What an amazing achievement!

Mandy, activities coordinator, said; “This will improve our residents lives and has given me new ideas that I can use in other parts of my activities.”

Registered Manager, Nicola Ray, commented; “We are very proud of everything that Mandy has achieved since joining us and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!”
