A Meaningful Harvest Festival at Oaklands

Posted on 16 October 2025

This autumn, Oaklands Rest Home embraced the season with a traditional and heartfelt Harvest Festival.

Once the idea was decided, Helen from the Activities Team and Jasmine began researching what a traditional harvest celebration would involve. The result was a lovely event that truly captured the spirit of the season. Helen led a short service with hymns, a Bible reading, and prayers, as well as a thoughtful chat about The Trussell Trust and the important work they do to support local families in need.

In keeping with the harvest tradition of sharing and giving, staff came together to collect food donations for the Hythe & Waterside Foodbank. Sally, the chef, added a special touch by baking traditional bread plaits and twists for the display.

The Hythe & Waterside Foodbank, part of The Trussell Trust network, plays a vital role in supporting people across the local area who are facing difficult times. Their work relies heavily on community donations and volunteer support — and Oaklands is proud to have contributed to their cause.

The home was filled with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with residents enjoying the music, reflections, and sense of togetherness. A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped make the celebration so special. The team hopes to build on this for next year — making it even bigger and better.
